Thach Ha – Ha Tinh

Thach Ha A Land of Fierce Sun and Heavy Rain

Ha Tinh – Thach Ha is a land whose beauty comes not from glamour, but from familiarity and sincerity. Blue sea stretches beside white sand, salt fields glitter in the sun and quiet villages sit beneath weathered tile roofs—together forming an unmistakably Central Vietnamese landscape. Here, the sea breeze tastes of salt, sunlight turns honey-gold, and the melodies of Vi and Giam folk songs remain part of everyday life: in the fields, at markets and during family gatherings.

Visitors to Ha Tinh – Thach Ha often say that the journey feels less like tourism and more like returning to a memory: a morning at the fish market, a midday listening to the surf, an evening walking the beach in the salty wind. Life moves more slowly here—slow enough to notice clouds reflected on the water, the gentle smiles of local people and the perseverance that has long shaped the character of the Nghe Tinh region.

Sights to visit in Destinantions

Thien Cam Beach

Thien Cam curves like a blue ribbon along a smooth white-sand shoreline. The water is clear, the waves are gentle and the beach is well suited to early-morning walks or quiet sunsets. The sound of the surf mixed with sea wind gives real meaning to the name often interpreted as the “music of heaven.”

Thach Ha Salt Fields

The salt pans reflect the sky in a landscape unlike almost anywhere else. Under strong sunlight, white salt crystals shimmer across the fields. Watching local salt workers at work—weathered hands, sun-darkened skin and calm smiles—reveals the beauty and difficulty of coastal labour.

Dong Noi Ecotourism Area

A green setting of melaleuca forest, clear water and shaded paths, Dong Noi is well suited to picnics, camping, boating or simply finding a quiet place to read. A day here offers an uncomplicated chance to recharge in nature.

Le Khoi Temple – Nam Gioi Mountain

The temple complex rests against the mountain and faces the sea, combining a sacred atmosphere with dramatic coastal scenery. From higher ground, cool sea wind opens onto a broad horizon of deep blue water. The site is both a spiritual destination and a fine viewpoint over Ha Tinh’s coastline.

Hong Linh Mountain

Hong Linh is a cultural symbol of the wider Nghe Tinh region. Rather than one towering peak, the range extends across a broad landscape interwoven with temples, streams and forest. From higher viewpoints, villages, fields and waterways come together in a distinctly poetic Central Vietnamese scene.

Ke Go Lake

Ke Go offers a different side of Ha Tinh: an inland “sea” of deep blue water surrounded by natural forest. The fresh air and expansive landscape make it ideal for picnics, photography and escaping the heat of Central Vietnam’s summer.

Huong Tich Pagoda, Ha Tinh

Often praised as one of the most beautiful historic sites of old Hoan Chau, Huong Tich Pagoda sits amid mountain forest with clouds brushing close to its roofs. The climb is both physical and reflective, accompanied by incense, temple bells and mountain wind—well suited to travellers seeking quiet and contemplation.

Festivals of the year in the region

Le Khoi Temple – Nam Gioi Festival

The Le Khoi Temple Festival is first and foremost an expression of gratitude to earlier generations. Grand Duke Le Khoi was a distinguished general of the Later Le dynasty who helped defend the country and protect its borders. Processions, ceremonial rites and incense offerings honour his loyalty and service while preserving the Vietnamese tradition of remembering those who came before. The festival is also a homecoming for families living away from the region, turning a spiritual commemoration into a broader community reunion along the Nam Gioi coast.
The Cau Ngu Festival reflects the deep spiritual relationship between fishing communities and the sea. Before heading offshore, fishermen pray for safety and a good catch. Ritual offerings, ba trao singing and boat processions express gratitude to the sea that sustains the village. The festival also helps younger generations understand and respect the hardships of traditional fishing, while visitors witness a strong sense of community built around shared hopes for safe journeys and abundant harvests.
The Huong Tich Pagoda Festival is not only a pilgrimage but also an inward journey. Visitors pray for health, family and the future, while the climb through misty mountains and the quiet act of lighting incense offer a pause from everyday concerns. Its meaning lies less in spectacle than in the feeling of calm, reflection and kindness that people carry with them after descending the mountain.
The greatest value of Vi and Giam folk singing lies in preserving the cultural soul of the region. Each song carries pieces of everyday life—longing, love, hardship and the resilience of people shaped by the demanding climate of Central Vietnam. When these melodies are performed during festivals, generations meet: elders pass them on, young people learn them and visitors listen and connect. Recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, Vi and Giam remain a living voice of Nghe Tinh identity.
The Thien Cam Sea Festival marks the opening of the local tourism season and brings renewed energy to the coast. Parades, music, beach sports and food events introduce visitors to the beauty and culture of Ha Tinh while celebrating the hospitality and hardworking spirit of local people. More than entertainment, the festival is a proud invitation to discover the region’s beaches, traditions and stories.

Local food

Chao Canh Ha Tinh

Chao canh is a comforting Ha Tinh favourite that locals can enjoy again and again. Soft but slightly chewy noodles are served in a clear broth sweetened naturally from bones, with fish, pork or fish cake, then finished with spring onion and green chilli. A hot bowl in the morning tastes as much like home and childhood as it does breakfast.

Banh Beo with dried shrimp

Small translucent rice cakes are topped with golden dried shrimp and fragrant scallion oil. A spoonful of well-balanced garlic-chilli fish sauce brings the dish together—salty, gently rich and lightly sweet. Simple in size but full of flavour, each bowl reflects both coastal ingredients and the careful cooking of Nghe Tinh households.

Ram and Banh Muot A Nghe Tinh classic

Thin, soft banh muot made from fresh rice contrasts with hot, crisp ram filled with savoury ingredients. Wrapped together and dipped in spicy fish sauce, the combination is crunchy, tender and fragrant—a fine example of Central Vietnam’s ability to make simple food memorable.

Cu Do candy Ha Tinh’s sweet calling card

Few specialties are more closely associated with Ha Tinh than cu do. Thin rice crackers sandwich roasted peanuts, fragrant sugarcane molasses and warming ginger. Crisp, chewy and aromatic at once, it is both a local treat and a familiar gift visitors take home.

Stir-fried clams with rice crackers

Fresh clams are stir-fried with onion, roasted peanuts and herbs, then scooped up with crisp rice crackers. The sweetness of the clams, richness of peanuts and fragrance of lemongrass and kaffir lime create a distinctly Nghe Tinh flavour.

Seafood Thien Cam

A trip to the coast would feel incomplete without seafood. At Thien Cam, squid, shrimp, crab, shellfish and fish often go straight from the boats to the kitchen. Simple preparations—charcoal grilling, steaming with lemongrass or a light stir-fry—are enough to highlight their natural sweetness.

Climate seasons

The climate of Ha Tinh – Thach Ha carries the unmistakable character of Central Vietnam: plenty of sun and wind, yet each season has its own mood. In summer, Thien Cam Beach turns bright blue beneath strong golden sunlight, ideal for swimming, walking the sand and watching sunset. Autumn brings clearer skies, gentler winds and calmer seas, making it especially pleasant for retreats and photography. Spring begins with mist over the hills and a lively festival season in coastal villages, while winter rain creates a quieter atmosphere for temple visits, small cafés and evenings listening to Vi and Giam folk songs. Whatever the season, the weather feels distinctively local—sunny, salty, open and full of sea air.
